Children's Games is an ongoing art exhibition by renowned artist Francis Alÿs exposing the ways children play around the world. The exhibit is comprised of 20 short films of children at play outdoors, many of which show children living in regions experiencing extreme conflict and tension.
Poster one (left) features images taken from scenes in Alÿs' films. The images are layered to give the impression of movement in the poster, suggesting that the exhibition it advertises is composed of films. Text describing the exhibition is scattered throughout the poster to create a sense of disorganization to reflect the chaotic environments that children shown in Alÿs' films live in. While these groups of text are scattered, their arrangement and placement around elements of the image they surround make the poster feel balanced.
Poster two (right) uses only text to advertise Children's Games. To imply that is exhibition is about film, I used repeating text coming from the top of the page evoking the way that film reels project moving images. The inverted body text additionally adds movement to the composition, while giving an unsettling feeling that is reflective of the places shown in Alÿs' films.
